“Sacred space is not just an external place. It is an internal place as well.” ~ Mat Auryn, Psychic Witch: A Metaphysical Guide to Meditation, Magick & Manifestation

“We use rituals in our Moon Circle in order to set the evening apart as a sacred space. We use it to recentre ourselves, to allow crashing thoughts to melt away. Like music and art, rituals can open our hearts to new possibilities. They allow us to see with a fresh clarity, and bring us to a space of liminality. Liminal space is what we feel when we see a stunning sunset and the world around us drops away. It’s when we hear a new song and begin crying at the traffic lights. It’s the quiet of Christmas Eve, when everything is done and all the family is asleep, and your mind grows still and full of gladness.” ~ Lucy Aitkenread, Moon Circle: Rediscover intuition, wildness and sisterhood

A sacred space is generally known as a designated area in your apartment, home or garden that you can go to release stress and tune into yourself. It is a space for just ‘being’. A place where we can reflect, read, write and unwind ~ a place just for you.

And I hear you whispering softly, “why do we need a sacred space?” A sacred space helps us remain grounded to the earth and go within our thoughts and feelings. Sacred space aids us in recharging our batteries when we are feeling drained.

Most people automatically assume that a sacred space is mainly to do with a religion or a religious practice, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be. While it can deepen spirituality through prayer and meditation; it can simply just be a place where we keep all the things we love to spend time with. Regardless of what this space is used for, a sacred space is a place for you to just be you.

In a universe woven of interconnectivity, there is nothing that is not sacred. When we intentionally open up sacred space, we enter into a conscious relationship with our environment, with the recognition that all is sacred. A communion with spirit. By surrendering to this great mystery, we open up for healing and guidance from the unseen. The laws of the 3D world do not abide here and anything is possible..

Creating a Sacred Space

Sacred spaces can be anywhere you want it to be. It can be in a small corner of a room, outside in a garden, a forest near you, or if you have a big house, you can convert an extra room into a sacred space. It can be minimal or it can be complex, that’s for you to design and explore.

The most important thing is that it feels like it is your own and that it’s quiet, comforting, relaxing and calming. If you can sit close to the ground it will keep you grounded. It is fundamental to cleanse the energy of your sacred space, here are some tips. ~

Clearing The Area ~ Clear the space from clutter, visual distractions, audio pollution and anything that would fill it with uncleansed energy. Make use of sage and palo santo, set an intention and know it that the smoke is purifying the space.

Setting Your Intention ~ Your sacred space is a place to meditate, pray,  reflect, contemplate, write, daydream, create etc  Don’t answer emails or calls, use the internet, or watch TV in this area as you want to be free of distractions.

Asking for Guidance ~ Use your sacred space to connect with your inner wisdom and the universe by asking for Guidance from the universe, angels and your guides. This will help you with seeking guidance and strengthening you spiritual practices.

Using Aromatics ~ Use aromatherapy, essential oils and incense to clear dense energy, bring about a positive mental state, center your mind and let go of distractions.

Your sacred space is a prominent portal to your past, present, and future; your intention is the web that weaves the dream you enter. You set the rules and limits. The space you create is a physical blueprint and a guidance system for the spirit realm. You may choose to build a traditional mesa (altar) aligned with the four directions, or simply use your intuition to guide you, as to how things should be arranged. In this way, we create a space that I feel good and protected in.
